Where It Began

We Built the Platform We Wished Existed

In 2021, our co-founder Marcus got hit with three copyright strikes in one week — on music he had legitimately purchased from a well-known beat marketplace. No license documentation. No recourse. Just three strikes and a threatened channel deletion.

So he called his producer friend Dana, pulled up a whiteboard, and they sketched out what a fair, transparent beat marketplace should actually look like. Three months later, the first version of CosmoBeats went live.

Today we're a team of 14 — producers, developers, legal experts, and music industry veterans — obsessed with one thing: giving artists the tools they need to create without fear.

Marcus Reid gets three copyright strikes on licensed music. He and producer Dana Cole sketch out the concept for CosmoBeats on a whiteboard. First lines of code written the same night.

CosmoBeats v1.0 goes live with 80 beats from 12 producers. Licensing was manual — PDFs sent by email. Rough around the edges, but the vision was clear. First 200 customers arrive organically.
